What are earth processes?

Earth processes are like the things that make our planet move and change over time, just like how you play with your toys and they get moved around.

Imagine Earth is a big, busy playground, and everything on it, mountains, rivers, volcanoes, are like the toys and games. The earth processes are what make those toys move and change shape.

How Earth Moves

Sometimes, the ground shakes, that’s like when you jump on your bed and it bounces around. That's earthquakes, caused by big rocks sliding under the ground.

How Earth Changes Shape

Over time, rivers can carve out canyons, it's like how water from a hose can slowly wear down a sandcastle. This is called erosion.

Or, deep inside the earth, hot rock can push up and make new mountains, just like when you pile your blocks higher and higher until they form a tall tower.

These changes happen really slowly, but over many years, they shape the whole planet!

Examples

  1. A mountain range forms because two landmasses collide, like when a car crashes into another car.
  2. Rivers carry sand from mountains to the sea, creating beaches over time.
  3. Volcanoes erupt because molten rock rises from deep inside the Earth.
