What are earth-like planets?

Earth-like planets are planets that look and act a lot like Earth, but they're not our home, they’re out in space somewhere else.

Imagine you have a favorite toy car. Now, think of other cars on the playground that are similar: same size, same color, maybe even the same kind of wheels. That’s what earth-like planets are, they’re like Earth’s cousins in the universe!

What Makes a Planet "Earth-Like"?

Size and shape: They're about the same size as Earth, so you could probably run around on them just like you do here.

Atmosphere: They have air, not too thick, not too thin. Think of it like wearing a cozy sweater instead of nothing or a winter coat.

Liquid water: Just like we have oceans and lakes here, earth-like planets might have liquid water, which is super important for life as we know it.

Why We Care

We look for these kinds of planets because they could be homes for other living things, maybe even humans one day! It's like finding a new playground that’s just as fun as the old one.
