What are diyas?

A diya is a little lamp that people light during special times of the year to bring joy and brightness into their homes.

Imagine you have a small cup made from clay, it's like the ones your grandma uses to drink tea. This cup has a tiny hole in the middle, just big enough for a wick (a string that soaks up oil) to stick through. When you pour some oil into the cup and light the wick, the diya starts glowing! It’s like having a little sun inside your house.

During festivals, especially when people celebrate with family and friends, they place these lit diyas around their homes, on windowsills, tables, or even in small bowls of water. The warm light from the diya makes everything feel cozy and happy, just like when you have a flashlight during a camping trip.
