What are distributed systems?

A distributed system is like having several friends working together on a big puzzle from different rooms, each one doing their part so the whole picture comes together.

Imagine you and your friends are all trying to build a giant lego castle. Instead of everyone gathering in one room, each friend has their own little table with some legos. They can talk to each other through walkie-talkies or messages, telling what pieces they need or what they’ve built so far. Even though everyone is working separately and maybe even in different rooms, the whole castle still gets finished because all the parts fit together perfectly.

That’s how a distributed system works, but with computers instead of legos and friends. Different computers (like your friend's table) work on their own tasks, but they can communicate and share information so everything runs smoothly, just like your lego castle!

Sometimes, one computer might be faster than another, or it might take a little longer to send a message, but that’s okay. The whole system still works as if it were all in one place, just like how you and your friends can finish the puzzle even if some of you are slower at putting pieces together!
