What are demographic projections?

Demographic projections are like guessing how many people will be playing in your favorite game next year, or even 10 years from now.

Imagine you and your friends start a club. Every year, some new kids join, and some leave to go to other clubs. If you want to know how many snacks you’ll need for the next big party, you might try to predict how many people will be there, that’s like making a demographic projection!

How it works

Think of a town as a giant cookie jar. Every year, some cookies (people) are added, and some are taken away. By looking at how the number of cookies has changed over time, grown-ups can guess what the jar might look like in the future.

Why it matters

If you know how many people will be in your town, or even your school, you can plan better. You might need more buses, more playgrounds, or more pizza for lunch!
