What are compacted feces?

Compacted feces are poop that’s been squeezed so tightly it feels hard and dry, like a rock.

Imagine you have a bag full of marshmallows, soft, squishy, and easy to push around. Now imagine you leave that bag in the sun for a long time. The marshmallows get smaller, drier, and harder to move. That’s what happens with compacted feces, your poop gets squeezed and dried out inside your body.

Why does this happen?

Sometimes, when your body doesn’t get enough water or fiber (like from fruits and veggies), the poop can’t stay soft. It becomes like that bag of marshmallows left in the sun, tight, dry, and tough to pass.

Think about it like a sponge. If you squeeze all the water out of it, it becomes small and hard. That’s what happens with your poop when it becomes compacted feces, it gets squeezed down into one solid piece, making it harder for your body to push it out.
