What are cold seasons?

Cold seasons are times of the year when it gets really chilly outside, like when your breath turns into little clouds and your nose feels frozen.

Like a Big, Slow Freeze

Imagine you have a big glass of juice on the table. When you put it in the fridge, it slowly gets colder. That’s kind of what happens during cold seasons, the whole world is like that juicy drink, getting cooler day by day.

How It Works

The Earth spins around the Sun, and sometimes we’re tilted away from the Sun. That means our part of the world gets less sunlight, so it doesn’t get as warm. This makes cold seasons happen, usually in winter or early spring, depending on where you live.

When the days are short and the nights are long, it feels like the Earth is taking a long nap under a cozy blanket of snow or chilly air. That’s why we wear thick coats, drink hot chocolate, and sometimes even go skiing, all fun things to do when it's cold outside!
