What are cognitive tasks?

A cognitive task is something your brain does to solve a problem or figure out what’s going on.

Imagine you have a toy box full of different toys, cars, blocks, and action figures. When you try to find the red car so you can play a race, that's like doing a cognitive task. Your brain has to look through all the toys, remember where it saw the red car last time, and pick it out.

Like Solving a Puzzle

Sometimes, cognitive tasks are like solving a puzzle. If your mom asks you to put together a picture puzzle, your brain has to think about how the pieces fit, which shape goes with which color, just like matching up parts of a toy or figuring out what time school starts.

When You're Thinking Hard

When you’re trying really hard to remember something, like your favorite song or where you left your lunch, that's also a cognitive task. It’s like searching through your brain’s toy box for the right piece of music or snack!

Your brain does these tasks all day long, whether you're playing, learning, or just thinking about what to wear tomorrow.
