What are chills?

Chills are when your body gets super cold really fast, almost like it’s shivering from the inside out.

Imagine you're wearing a cozy blanket on a chilly night, and suddenly someone takes it away, poof! You feel all the warmth leave you in an instant. That's what chills feel like. Your body is trying to stay warm by shivering, which makes your muscles move quickly, giving off heat.

Why do we get chills?

Sometimes, when you're sick or have a fever, your body goes on a little adventure, it gets really hot and then really cold all at once. It's like when you jump into a pool after being outside in the sun for a long time. Your skin feels goosebumps, which are tiny bumps that help your body hold onto heat.

Chills can also happen if you're really tired or stressed, almost like your body is saying, “I need to warm up again!” So next time you feel chills, just think of it as your body’s way of telling you it needs some extra warmth, maybe a blanket, a hot drink, or even a hug!
