What are chickens?

Chickens are funny little birds that live on farms and sometimes even in our backyards.

Imagine you have a friend who loves to run around, peck at the ground, and cluck loudly when they're happy, that's a chicken! They start out as tiny babies called chicks, and they grow up to be full-grown chickens. Some are fluffy and yellow, others are white or brown, just like how your friends can look different too.

Chickens have a special job: they help people by laying eggs. Think of it like a chicken is giving you a little round snack that you can cook or eat right away! And if you're lucky, some chickens also give you meat, which is what we use to make things like grilled chicken and chicken soup.

Chickens are also very social, they live in groups called flocks, and they talk to each other using clucks and crows. It's like having a whole bunch of friends who all have their own special way of saying hello!
