What are charts?

Charts are pictures that show numbers or information, so we can see what they mean more easily.

Imagine you have a bag full of colorful marbles, red, blue, green, and yellow. If someone asks you how many marbles there are of each color, it might be hard to count them all in your head. But if you draw or print out a chart with bars or shapes showing the number of each color, it becomes much clearer.

What Charts Look Like

Charts can look like bar graphs, where taller bars mean more marbles, or they can look like pie charts, which show how big each part is compared to the whole bag. These are just two kinds of charts; there are many others too!

Why We Use Charts

Charts help us see patterns and differences quickly, like comparing who has more marbles in a game. Instead of reading long lists of numbers, we can look at a chart and understand things at a glance, just like how a map helps you find your way without getting lost!
