What are capillaries?

Capillaries are tiny tubes that help your blood travel through your body like a mini highway.

Imagine you're playing with toy cars on a big track. Now imagine those toy cars have to go through really small tunnels to get from one part of the track to another, that’s kind of what capillaries do! They’re so tiny, you can’t see them without a special magnifying glass.

How Small Are Capillaries?

Capillaries are like the tiny straws in a juice box. When you drink from a juice box, the juice comes through those little straws, that’s how your blood moves through capillaries too!

Why Do We Need Capillaries?

Your body needs capillaries because they help deliver food and oxygen to all your cells, just like how water helps plants grow. And when you're tired or need more energy, capillaries help bring the fuel your muscles need, kind of like a special delivery service for your body!
