What are branching narratives?

A branching narrative is like choosing different paths in a story, and each choice leads you somewhere new.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy train set. You start at the station, and there are two tracks ahead of you: one goes to the candy mountain, and the other leads to the park with the slide. Depending on which track you pick, your journey changes, that’s branching!

Like a Storybook with Choices

In a regular storybook, you read from page 1 to page 2 to page 3, it's just one path. But in a branching narrative, you get to choose where the story goes next.

For example:

  • On page 5, you might be asked: "Do you want to follow the dragon or hide behind the tree?"
  • If you pick the dragon, you go to page 10.
  • If you hide, you go to page 7.

It’s like playing a game where every decision changes what happens next, just like when you choose which road to take on your toy train adventure! A branching narrative is like choosing different paths in a story, and each choice leads you somewhere new.
