What are bloom events?

A bloom event is when a huge number of tiny sea creatures suddenly grow into bright green or blue plants that float on the water.

Imagine you're at a big party, and everyone is wearing plain clothes. Then all of a sudden, poof!, every person puts on a shiny, colorful costume at the same time. That’s what happens during a bloom event.

In the ocean, there are tiny creatures called phytoplankton, which are like the party guests. They’re so small you can’t see them, but when they get together in huge numbers and start growing, poof!, they turn into bright green or blue floating plants that cover the water’s surface.

Sometimes, the ocean gets a little extra food or sunlight, which makes these tiny creatures multiply super fast. It's like giving everyone at the party a big snack and telling them to wear costumes, suddenly, everything is much more fun and colorful!
