What are blades?

Blades are sharp tools that help you cut or slice things, just like a knife helps you cut your sandwich.

Imagine you have a stick, and you want to make it shorter so it fits in your backpack. If you whittle it with a small knife, that’s a blade doing its job, cutting the stick piece by piece. Blades are used in many places: on scissors, knives, even on some toys!

How blades work

Blades have two important parts:

  • The sharp edge, which is like the tip of your finger when you press it hard against something.
  • The body, which gives the blade strength, just like how your arm helps you push or pull things.

When you use a blade, you press the sharp edge against something and move it forward, making the thing cut or break apart. It’s like using your fingernail to scratch paper, only much sharper!

Some blades are long and thin, like a sword, while others are short and thick, like a butter knife. No matter their shape, they all do the same job: cutting!
