What are black hole explosions?

A black hole can sometimes have a big explosion when it eats something really fast.

Imagine you're eating candy, if you eat one piece slowly, nothing special happens. But if you stuff your mouth with ten pieces all at once, you might choke! That's what happens to a black hole when it swallows something very heavy quickly.

A black hole is like an extremely greedy eater, it loves to suck in things like stars and space dust. But if it eats too much too fast, its energy gets all jumbled up, and explosions happen around it, shooting out light and matter.

Sometimes, when a black hole is really busy eating, it can cause a huge flash, like turning on a super bright flashlight in the dark. This is called a black hole explosion, and you can see it from far away, even if you're just a tiny speck in space.
