What are biological traits?

Biological traits are features that living things have because of how they're built inside.

Imagine you and your friends all have backpacks. Some of you have big backpacks, some have small ones, and some even have backpacks with extra pockets for snacks! These differences in your backpacks are like biological traits, they’re things you can see or notice about yourself because of how your body is made.

Like a Backpack Made by Nature

Your body is kind of like that backpack. Some people have curly hair, some have straight hair, that’s a trait. Some people are taller than others, and some can run faster. All these things come from the way their bodies are built inside, just like your backpack came from how it was made.

Traits Can Be Shared or Passed On

If you get a backpack that looks just like your friend's, maybe you both got it from the same store, or maybe someone gave it to you. In the real world, traits can be passed on from parents to kids, like how you might inherit blue eyes or brown hair, just like getting a cool new backpack!
