What are biological growth rates?

Biological growth rates are how fast living things grow over time.

Imagine you have a tiny seed that turns into a big tree, that’s growth! Now imagine it grows really fast, like it gets twice as tall every week. That speed is the biological growth rate.

Like a Snack Time Race

Let's say your friend and you both start with 5 candies. Your friend eats one candy each day, that’s slow growth. You eat two candies each day, that’s faster growth! After a week, you’ll have fewer candies left, but you’re growing faster in the race to finish all of them.

The Bigger the Thing, the Slower It Grows

Big animals like elephants grow slowly because they need a lot of food and time. Tiny animals like mice or bugs can grow really fast, sometimes even from one day to the next! Just like how your little brother can grow from a baby to a kid in just a few years.

So, biological growth rates are all about how quickly living things change size over time, whether it’s a seed becoming a tree, you growing taller, or a bug getting bigger every day.
