What are bile canaliculi?

Bile canaliculi are tiny channels that help your body digest food, especially fats.

Imagine you're eating a big bowl of ice cream, it’s creamy and delicious! Now, think about how your body turns that ice cream into something it can use. In your liver, there are special cells called hepatocytes. These cells make a greenish fluid called bile, which helps break down fats.

Now picture these hepatocytes like tiny factories with little roads between them, those roads are the bile canaliculi. Bile travels along these roads and then goes into your intestine, where it helps you absorb all that tasty fat from your ice cream.

How They Work Like a Playground

Think of the bile canaliculi as little paths in a playground. Just like kids run through paths to get from one part of the playground to another, bile moves along these paths to go where it's needed, into your intestines.

Without these tiny roads, the bile would be stuck inside the factory (your liver), and you wouldn’t be able to enjoy your ice cream as much!
