What are bert-like architectures?

Bert-like architectures are smart helpers that understand and use language by learning from lots of text.

Imagine you have a big book full of stories, and you read it over and over again until you know almost every word and how they fit together. That’s kind of what bert-like models do, but instead of reading books, they learn from huge amounts of text on the internet.

How They Work

These helpers look at words in a sentence and figure out their meaning based on the surrounding words, like a detective solving a puzzle. For example, if you say "The cat chased the mouse," the model learns that "cat" is probably doing something to "mouse."

Learning from Experience

Bert-like models are trained by being shown many sentences and then asked to guess missing words or predict what comes next, just like when you play a game where someone covers up part of a picture, and you have to say what it is.

Once they’re trained, these helpers can answer questions, write stories, and even chat with you, all by understanding the meaning behind the words.
