What are beliefs?

Beliefs are like invisible backpacks we carry around all day, they help us understand what's happening and decide what to do next.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, and it suddenly stops working. You might think, “Maybe my toy is broken.” That thought in your head, that idea that the toy isn’t working anymore, is a belief. It’s like a small voice saying, “This is how things are now.”

What Beliefs Do

Beliefs help us make sense of the world. If you believe it's going to rain tomorrow, you might take an umbrella with you when you go outside. If you believe your friend always shares their snacks, you might bring a snack to share too.

How We Get Beliefs

We get beliefs from things we experience. Maybe you saw your brother fall down and got hurt, so now you believe that if you run too fast, you might trip too. Or maybe you tried chocolate ice cream and loved it, now you believe chocolate is the best flavor!

Beliefs can change too. If you try vanilla ice cream and like it just as much, your belief might be “Vanilla is also really good!”

Beliefs are like little helpers inside our heads that help us know what to expect, and sometimes even surprise us! Beliefs are like invisible backpacks we carry around all day, they help us understand what's happening and decide what to do next.
