What are backwards?

What are backwards? They're when things happen in the opposite order from what we usually expect.

Imagine you're eating a sandwich. You start with the bottom piece of bread, then add the filling, and finally put on the top piece of bread. That's the usual way. But if you start with the top piece of bread first, then add the filling, and finish with the bottom piece, that’s backwards!

Like Reading a Book

When we read a book, we usually go from the beginning to the end, page 1, then page 2, all the way to the last page. But if you start reading from the last page and work your way back to the first one, that’s also backwards!

Like Putting on Shoes

Putting on shoes is another fun example. You usually put on your left shoe first, then your right shoe, but if you do it in reverse, starting with your right shoe and then your left shoe, that's backwards too.

So, when something happens in the opposite order from what we expect, we call it backwards!
