What are assets?

An asset is something you own that can help you get what you want or make life easier.

Imagine your toy box, it’s full of assets! Each toy is like an asset because it can be used to play, learn, or even trade with friends. A big red car might help you win a race, while a shiny blue block could stack up high and make a tower that reaches the sky. These toys are your assets, just like money, land, or even your favorite shirt is an asset to you.

What Makes Something an Asset?

Not everything you own is an asset, sometimes things are just stuff. A broken toy might not be useful anymore, so it’s not really an asset any longer. But if you fix it and make it work again, poof! It becomes an asset once more.

Think of your backpack too. It holds all your supplies for school, books, pencils, even a snack for lunchtime. That’s why your backpack is also an asset, it helps you be ready for the day.
