Arousal levels are how excited or calm your brain is at any moment.
Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, that’s when your arousal level is high, like when you’re really happy and can’t stop laughing. Now imagine you're sitting quietly on the couch, reading a book, that’s when your arousal level is low, like when you're relaxed and ready for a nap.
What Arousal Levels Feel Like
- When your arousal level is high, it's like when you've just run around the house or been jumping on the bed. You might feel busy, happy, or even a little wild.
- When your arousal level is low, it’s like after a long rest, you feel calm, peaceful, and maybe even sleepy.
Your brain uses these levels to help you know when to play, when to rest, and how to react to the world around you. Just like how your toy works best when you're ready for it, your body works best when your arousal level is just right!
Examples
- A person falls asleep during a quiet movie because their arousal level is low.
- A dog becomes very excited when it hears the door open.
