What are animals?

Animals are living things that move around and eat other stuff to grow and stay alive.

Animals are like your friends at school, they're all different, but they have something in common: they can move, they need food, and they can grow. Just like you need to eat lunch to run around during recess, animals need to eat too!

What Makes Something an Animal

Think about a dog. A dog walks on four legs, chews on bones, and wags its tail when it’s happy. That’s what makes it an animal, it moves, it eats, and it grows.

Now imagine a bird. It flies in the sky, pecks at seeds, and builds nests. Even though it moves differently than a dog, it still does the same basic things: it moves, it eats, and it grows.

Some animals are big, like elephants, and some are tiny, like ants, but they all do these simple things to live their lives!
