What are anglo-saxons?

The Anglo-Saxons were people who lived in Britain a long time ago and helped shape it into what we know today.

Imagine you're playing with your friends at recess, and suddenly a group of new kids joins the game. These new kids are like the Anglo-Saxons, they came from a place called Germany, and they moved to Britain around 500 years ago. They were strong and brave, kind of like the best players on the team.

What Did They Do?

The Anglo-Saxons brought their language, customs, and even some cool weapons with them. Think about how you might bring your favorite toy or snack to school, they brought things that helped them build homes and fight battles.

They also started writing stories and poems, like a fun version of what you do when you write in your journal after a great day at the park.

Over time, they mixed with other people already living in Britain, and that’s how we got the name Anglo-Saxon, a mix of "Angle" and "Saxons," two groups among those new kids.
