What are ancient volcanic features?

Ancient volcanic features are like really big, old playgrounds made by volcanoes long ago.

Imagine a volcano is like a kid who loves to throw sand and rocks everywhere when they’re upset. When it’s done throwing, the sand and rocks make cool shapes around it, those are ancient volcanic features.

A volcano can spew out lava, which cools down into hard rock, like how melted chocolate turns into a solid bar when it cools. That hard rock is called lava flows.

Sometimes the volcano throws up ash and rocks high into the air, like when a kid throws confetti in the sky during a party. When that ash and rock land on the ground, they pile up and make volcanic cones, which look like big hills or mountains made of dirt and rocks.

These ancient volcanic features are special because they’ve been around for thousands of years, much longer than any kid’s playground! Some of them are even so big that you can see them from space, just like the biggest slides in a playground.
