What are ancient coins?

Ancient coins are old money that people used to buy things a long time ago.

Imagine you have a piggy bank full of pennies, nickels, and dimes, those are the coins we use today. Now picture going way back in time, maybe 2,000 years or more, when people didn’t have paper money or credit cards. Instead, they used coins made from metals like gold, silver, or copper.

Like a Special Piggy Bank

These ancient coins were like a special piggy bank that you could carry with you, and sometimes even trade with friends or neighbors. Some of them had pictures on them, just like how some of our coins today have presidents or animals.

People would use these coins to buy food, clothes, or even build houses! Just like we might use a dollar to buy candy from the store, people back then used ancient coins to buy things they needed every day. They were as important then as your lunch money is now!
