Airways are the tunnels inside your body that help you breathe in and out.
Imagine your lungs are like a big balloon, and to make it inflate and deflate, there needs to be a path for air to go through. That’s what airways do, they’re like the roads or highways that let air travel from your nose or mouth all the way into your lungs.
Like a Tunnel in Your Body
Think of your body as having a special tunnel system, just like a subway. When you breathe in, air goes through these tunnels and reaches your lungs. When you breathe out, it follows the same path back out. These tunnels are made of soft, stretchy tissue that can open up or narrow down, kind of like how a slide works when you go down.
Airways Keep You Going
Without airways, you wouldn’t be able to take in oxygen or push out carbon dioxide, which your body needs to keep moving and growing. So every time you take a breath, you’re using these special tunnels, your airways, to help you stay alive and happy!
