What are agricultural soils?

Agricultural soils are like special beds where plants grow really strong and healthy.

Imagine you have a big sandbox, but instead of just sand, it has lots of tiny pieces that help your toys (like little trees or flowers) grow. That's kind of what agricultural soils are, they're the ground where farmers plant things like corn, wheat, or carrots. These soils are full of nutrients, which are like snacks for plants. Just like you need food to grow, plants need these snacks in the soil to be big and strong.

Agricultural soils also have something called moisture, that’s just fancy talk for water. If you’ve ever planted a seed in a cup of dirt and kept it on a windowsill, you know how important water is. The soil holds this moisture so the plants can drink when they need to.

Sometimes farmers even add extra nutrients or mix up the soil to make it better, kind of like when you fluff up your pillow to sleep more comfortably!
