What are afterlives?

Afterlives are like stories that continue even after someone stops telling them.

Imagine you have a favorite toy, maybe a teddy bear or a robot that talks. When you stop playing with it, sometimes it still feels like it's doing things on its own. That’s kind of what afterlives are: the way some people believe that when someone dies, their story doesn’t end, it keeps going in another place.

Think about a big birthday party. Everyone is having fun, and then the guests leave one by one. But maybe there’s still music playing in the background, or the cake stays on the table, just waiting for someone to come back and enjoy it again. In some afterlives, people believe that when they die, they go to a special place where they keep having fun, like being at a never-ending birthday party.

Sometimes people think of an afterlife as a new home, maybe in the sky or under the ground. It’s like moving from one room in your house to another. You might not see your friends right away, but you know they’re still around, and you’ll meet them again someday.

So afterlives are just different ways of saying: “Your story doesn’t have to end, it can keep going.”
