Imagine you're playing with your toys, and only some kids get to play with the best toys, while others are left with the less fun ones, that’s what marginalization feels like for marginalized groups.
What is a Marginalized Group?
What Does It Mean to Be Marginalized?
When someone is marginalized, it means they are pushed to the side, not given the same chances or respect as others. Think of it like being in a big classroom, but your voice is too quiet for anyone to hear. Even though you're there, you feel like you're not really part of the group.
Sometimes, people don't even realize they're being marginalized, just like how you might not notice when someone else gets all the cool toys and you get the old ones every day.
Examples
- A group of kids are left out of a game because they don't speak the same language as everyone else.
- Older people in a town feel ignored when new developments only benefit younger residents.
