Scientists think there might be a connection between cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, like two puzzles that have some similar pieces.
Imagine your body is like a busy city with many roads, each road represents a different part of the body. Cancer happens when some of these roads get clogged up by too many cars (cells) growing out of control. Meanwhile, Alzheimer’s disease is like when the mail delivery in one part of the city gets messed up because some important letters (proteins) pile up and block the way.
Now here's a fun twist, sometimes, the same kind of car (a gene or protein) that causes traffic jams in one road might also cause trouble on another. Scientists have found that people who get cancer might be more likely to get Alzheimer’s, and vice versa, because these cars are related.
Like a shared toy
Think of it like sharing a toy, if you play with the same toy too much in one part of the city, it can cause problems elsewhere. This is why scientists are studying how cancer and Alzheimer’s might be linked, they want to know if they're using the same parts of the body or if there's something else connecting them.
So, even though we don’t have all the answers yet, it looks like these two puzzles share some pieces!
