All the gold ever mined could fit inside a cube that’s just 20 meters on each side, imagine a giant box you could play hide and seek in!
What does "fit" mean here?
Let’s compare to something familiar
Think of a gold bar, the kind you see in movies or on TV. It's heavy and solid. Now imagine stacking those bars together. If we had all the gold ever mined, it would take up less space than you might think.
The cube is like a giant container. A 20x20x20 meter cube has room for 8,000 cubic meters of space, and that’s enough to hold all the gold we’ve ever dug out from the Earth! It's not much bigger than a big swimming pool or a few school gyms put together.
So even though gold is precious and valuable, it doesn’t take up that much space, just like how a handful of marbles can fit in your pocket.
Examples
- A child fills a bathtub with gold, trying to imagine how much fits in a big cube.
- Someone compares the size of a gold bar to a shoebox and wonders how many fit into a room.
- A kid asks if all the gold ever mined would fill up a swimming pool.
