Infinity isn’t a number, but what if it were?

Imagine you have a bag full of marbles, lots and lots of them. You can count them one by one: 1, 2, 3… If you keep counting forever, that’s infinity. But infinity isn’t like the number 5 or 10; it doesn’t sit in your marble bag.

What if infinity *were* a number?

Let’s say we pretend infinity is a number, let's call it “∞” (that’s how we write it). Now imagine you have infinity marbles, and you add just one more. If infinity were a real number, you’d expect the total to be bigger than before.

But here's the fun part: infinity + 1 = infinity! It doesn’t change, like having an endless road and walking one more step; it’s still endless.

So even though we pretend infinity is a number, it acts differently. It’s like a never-ending staircase that doesn't get taller no matter how many steps you take. Cool, right?
