India: Why Does It Have So Many Different Languages?

India has many different languages because it's like a big, busy neighborhood with lots of families who each speak their own way.

Imagine you have a toy box full of all your favorite toys, cars, blocks, dolls, and balls. Each toy is special and plays differently. Now imagine every family in the neighborhood brought their own toy box, and they all played different games. That's kind of like India, there are many families (groups of people) who each speak their own language.

Like a Big Playground

India is very big, almost as big as 100 toy boxes put together! It has been around for thousands of years, and over time, different groups of people moved in, lived together, and started speaking their own ways. Some people came from the mountains, some from the rivers, and some even from faraway lands, each bringing their language with them.

That’s why today, when you visit India, you might hear someone saying "Namaste" or "Hello," or maybe they speak a language you don’t know at all. It's like visiting a giant playground where everyone plays their own game, and it's super fun to learn new ones!
