If Roman Roads Were So Good... Why Don't we use them!?

Roman roads were very good, but they're not around anymore, and we have better tools now.

Imagine you’re building a path in your backyard. You use sticks, stones, and maybe some dirt. That works fine for walking to the garden. But if you wanted to drive a car on that path, it might fall apart. That's what happened with Roman roads, they were amazing back then, but now we have cars, buses, and even trains.

• The Romans didn’t have cranes or concrete mixers like we do today.
• They used limestone and gravel, which is fine for walking or riding a horse, but not for heavy vehicles.
• Modern roads are built to last much longer and handle more traffic.

It's like using a wooden slide at the park versus a plastic one. The wooden one works great, but if you want it to stay strong for years with lots of kids using it, the plastic might be better.

So even though Roman roads were very good, we use modern ones because they’re made for today’s cars and trains, just like how we use plastic slides now! Roman roads were very good, but they're not around anymore, and we have better tools now.
