How Muscles Work Together
Imagine your body is made up of little ropes called muscles, and these ropes are attached to your bones with something like elastic bands. When your muscles pull on the bones, your body moves, just like when you pull a toy car with a string, it moves too!
There are two types of muscles: skeletal muscles, which help you move voluntarily (like when you decide to walk), and smooth muscles, which work automatically (like when your stomach helps you digest food).
How Muscles Make You Move
When you want to lift something, like a heavy book, your brain sends a message down your nerves to tell your muscles to contract or get shorter. That makes the rope-like muscles pull on your bones, helping you move.
And when you're done lifting, your muscles relax and go back to their normal length, just like a rubber band that snaps back after being stretched!
So every time you run, jump, laugh, or even blink, your muscular system is working hard behind the scenes, helping you do it all!
