How a Seed Becomes a Tree
A seed is like a baby tree inside a hard shell. When it gets enough rain and sun, it opens up and starts to grow, just like you start growing when you eat your lunch and go outside to play. The seed sends out roots underground, like your legs going down into the ground. At the same time, it grows tall and strong aboveground, like your arms stretching up when you reach for something.
How Trees Keep Growing
As trees grow, they get bigger and taller, just like you getting taller every year. They use leaves to catch sunlight, which helps them make food. This food gives the tree energy to keep growing, just like snacks give you energy to run around at recess.
Trees can even become homes for birds and squirrels, just like your bed is a home for you! Trees grow just like you do, but much faster! They start as tiny seeds, and with water, sunlight, and a little help from the air, they become big, strong trees.
