The Body as a Ruler
Imagine your toy has arms, legs, and a head. Now think of your toy’s body like a ruler that helps everything else fit together nicely.
Let’s say the distance from the neck to the waist is 1 unit, just like how you might count steps when walking! Then, each part of the body can be measured in those same units. For example:
- The head is about 1 unit tall.
- The arms are usually about 2 units long from the shoulder to the hand.
Using Your Hands as a Tool
You don’t need a ruler! Use your hands instead, like when you play with blocks or stack cups. If your head is one block, then your whole body can be built up using more blocks, all matching in size. That way, everything stays proportional and looks just right, not too big, not too small.
So next time you draw a friend or a pet, think of them like a toy, each piece fits together with the help of simple counting! This trick helps you draw people or animals so they look real, just like how your toys look when you line them up right!
