How to Deal with Strong Emotions | Thich Nhat Hanh (short teaching video)?

When you feel really strong emotions, it’s like having a storm inside your body, and Thich Nhat Hanh shows you how to calm that storm.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy, and suddenly it breaks. You feel angry or sad, right? That's strong emotion, it feels big and wild, like a thunderstorm. But just like storms pass, these feelings don’t last forever.

How to Calm the Storm

When you feel a strong emotion, take a deep breath in, like you're blowing out birthday candles, and then slowly breathe out. This helps your body remember that it's safe again, just like when you snuggle with your favorite blanket after a scary dream.

You can also say something gentle to yourself, like “It’s okay” or “I feel this, but I’m still me.” It’s like giving yourself a hug from the inside, soft and warm.

Sometimes, drawing or writing down how you feel helps too. It's like telling your feelings a story so they don’t feel as loud anymore.

Remember: strong emotions are just visitors in your body, they come, they stay a while, but eventually, they leave, and you can play again.
