You can make flat paper look like it has hills and valleys by using colors, shapes, and how close or far apart things are.
Imagine you’re looking at a toy train track on the floor. If the tracks get smaller as they go away, it looks like the train is going into the distance, that’s how we trick our eyes!
Making Things Look Far Away
Making Things Look Close
To make something look close, use dark colors and big shapes. Think about drawing a big red circle near the bottom of your page, that might be a huge, close-up apple!
You can also play with how far apart things are on the paper. If you put two trees very close together, they look like they’re right next to each other. But if you space them out more, they seem far away.
It’s like giving your picture a 3D feel, just using flat paper and clever color tricks!
