How to count to 1000 on two hands?

You can count to 1000 by using just your fingers and hands, like you use them every day when you play or eat.

Imagine each finger on your hand is a special helper who can do something extra. On one hand, you have 5 fingers, but if each finger can also show two different numbers (like wearing a hat or not), then that means you can count up to 10 with just one hand!

Now imagine you have two hands. Each hand can go up to 10, so together they can count all the way to 10 × 10 × 10 = 1000, like stacking blocks on top of each other, three layers high.

How it works

  • On one hand, you use your fingers to show numbers from 0 to 9
  • You do this for both hands
  • Then you multiply them together: first hand × second hand = total number

It’s just like counting with blocks, if you have 10 blocks in a row, and 10 rows of blocks, and 10 layers of that whole thing, you get 1000 blocks. That's how your two hands can count to 1000, using only numbers from 0 to 9 on each hand!
