How to Calculate Outs | Poker Tutorials?

Calculating outs in poker is like knowing how many hidden toys are still under your bed, you just need to count them!

Imagine you're playing a game with your friends, and you have two cards in your hand. You want to know if you'll get the best hand when more cards are revealed. The outs are the number of cards left that can help you win.

How It Works

Let's say you’re holding two cards: a 7 and a 8. The person who is dealing the cards has already shown three other cards, let’s say they're all 10s. You think maybe if you get a 9, you’ll have a straight (a row of numbers like 7-8-9-10). There are four 9s in the deck.

You’ve already seen your two cards and the three on the table, so that’s five cards total. That means there are 47 cards left that haven’t been shown yet.

Out of those 47 cards, four of them are 9s, those are your outs, because if you get one of them, you’ll win!

So counting your outs is just like counting how many hidden toys can still help you win the game. Easy peasy!
