How the Greeks built Temples?

The Greeks built big, beautiful temples using clever methods and strong materials, just like building a really cool treehouse.

The Big Blocks

Imagine you're stacking blocks to make a tower, that’s what the Greeks did, but with huge stones called limestone. These were so heavy, they needed special tools, like big chisels, to shape them into perfect rectangles and triangles. They used ropes and levers to move these blocks around, just like you might use a pulley to lift something heavy.

The Perfect Fit

Once the stones were ready, the Greeks put them together with such precision that sometimes they didn’t even need glue! They’d fit two stones so closely that a piece of paper couldn’t slide between them. This was called masonry, and it made their temples look smooth and strong, like a perfect puzzle.

The Beautiful Roof

On top of the temple, there were big triangular shapes called pediments. These were decorated with statues of gods and heroes, just like how you might put your favorite toys on top of your toy box to make it extra special.
