What is Halley's Comet?
Why Did People Think It Would Destroy the World?
People back then didn’t know much about space or comets, it was like trying to figure out how a toy car works without seeing the inside. Some scientists said that if Halley’s Comet got too close, Earth might get burned by all the ice and dust flying around.
Others thought it would make the sky go dark for a long time, like when you turn off all your lights and everything feels quiet and gloomy. That scared people, who started thinking maybe the world was going to end!
In the end, the comet passed by safely, and no one got burned, but for a little while, it looked like the sky might have been literally on fire!
