Once upon a time, Republicans and Democrats had different ideas about how to run the country, kind of like two kids who trade toys every week.
Imagine you have a big cookie jar. One kid (let’s say a Republican) wants to keep most of the cookies for themselves, so they don’t add many new cookies to the jar each year. The other kid (a Democrat) thinks everyone should get more cookies, so they add lots of new ones every year.
But now, after some years, it turns out that the first kid (Republican) is happy with adding more cookies, and the second kid (Democrat) is okay with keeping most of them, like they traded toys and found a new game to play together!
This swapping happened because people started changing their minds about what’s fair or what works best for everyone.
Why Did They Swap?
Sometimes, when grown-ups are in charge of the cookie jar, they see how things go after a few years. If giving more cookies helps more kids be happy, even the first kid might want to try that too!
And if keeping most of the cookies means fewer problems later on, even the second kid might like that idea now.
So it’s not magic, it’s just people learning and growing together!
