How Plants Cool the Planet?

Plants help cool the planet by absorbing heat and releasing water vapor, like a giant sponge in the sun.

Imagine you're playing outside on a hot day. You feel sweaty and uncomfortable, right? Well, plants do something similar but in reverse! They use water from inside them to cool down, kind of like when you pour water over your head to stay cool.

How Plants Release Water

Plants have tiny holes called stomata, which are like little mouths. Through these mouths, they let out water vapor into the air, this is called transpiration. It’s like when you blow on a wet hand to make it dry faster; plants do something similar but with water and heat.

This process takes away some of the heat from around them, which helps cool not just themselves, but also the air around them. The more plants there are, the more they can help keep the planet cooler, like having lots of fans working together to keep a room nice and fresh!
