How Parties Pick Presidential Candidates?

There are big groups called parties that help choose who will be on the ballot for president.

Imagine you're in a big classroom, and everyone wants to be the class leader. But instead of just picking one person randomly, they have a special way to choose, it's like a game.

How It Works

Each party has members, like kids in different teams, who vote for their favorite candidate. These votes happen in special events called primaries, where people pick the best person from their team to be on the ballot.

Sometimes, the voting is like a race, if one person gets more votes than others, they win and become the party's choice. But sometimes it takes longer, and they have another vote, this is like going into overtime in a game.

The Big Show

After all the voting, each party picks their favorite candidate, and that person becomes the presidential nominee, the one who will go on to be picked by everyone else in the country. It's like choosing your team’s best player for a big match!
