The US Constitution has been threatened a lot, like when a big kid tries to take your toy and you have to fight for it.
Think of the US Constitution as the rules that keep the game fair for all the players, the United States. Sometimes, people don’t like these rules anymore, so they try to change them or even break them completely.
When the Rules Got in Trouble
- Once, a group of leaders tried to take more power than the Constitution allowed, kind of like when someone grabs your toy and won't let go.
- Another time, people got very upset with the government and started a war, it was like a big, loud argument that turned into a real battle.
- Sometimes, parts of the Constitution were changed slowly over many years, like how you grow taller little by little.
Each of these moments was a time when the US Constitution was "threatened", not broken, but in danger of being changed or ignored. And even though it's been threatened many times, it’s still here today, helping keep the game fair for everyone.
Examples
- A big fight between the government and the people during the Civil War almost changed how America was run.
- The US Constitution was almost rewritten when there were huge protests in the 1960s.
- When the government stopped working for a long time, it made people wonder if the Constitution would survive.
